We’re recruiting for a Finance Director or Chief Financial Officer role within a well-established and rapidly evolving insurance environment where governance, strategic growth, and commercial excellence sit firmly at the center of the business.
This executive-level role partners closely with the CEO and Board to drive financial strategy, regulatory compliance, capital management, and the long-term sustainability of the organisation. In short: high impact, high visibility, and very little room for “we’ll fix it in next quarter’s numbers.”
The successful incumbent will provide strategic financial leadership across the organisation, ensuring full compliance with IFRS, SAM, and the broader insurance regulatory framework. You’ll oversee capital adequacy, solvency, regulatory reporting, and financial performance, while also helping the business make commercially smart decisions without giving the risk and compliance teams collective heart palpitations.
This is the kind of role where you’ll move between executive strategy sessions, Audit Committee presentations, solvency discussions, actuarial reviews, regulator engagements, and funding conversations, often all before lunch and usually while someone urgently asks for “just a quick updated forecast.”
The environment requires a commercially astute and highly strategic CA(SA) who can confidently operate at Board level, influence key business decisions, and still remain calm when the words “urgent FSCA request” appear in an email subject line.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, contributing to overall business strategy and decision-making.
- Provide financial insights to support product development, pricing, and growth initiatives.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning processes.
- Ensure accurate and compliant monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Ensure full compliance with IFRS (including IFRS 17 & IFRS 9), SAM, and all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Oversee statutory reporting submissions and engagement with the PA and FSCA.
- Manage capital adequacy, liquidity, and solvency within the SAM framework.
- Lead balance sheet optimisation and capital management strategy.
- Oversee treasury, tax, funding relationships, and audit engagements.
- Ensure strong governance frameworks, internal controls, and risk management practices.
- Collaborate closely with actuarial, compliance, risk, and audit functions.
- Lead and develop a high-performing finance team.
- Present financial performance, strategic insights, and regulatory matters to the Board and executive stakeholders.
Job Experience and Skills Required:
- Chartered Accountant (SA) qualification (non-negotiable).
- Postgraduate qualification such as an MBA advantageous.
- Minimum 10 years’ senior financial management experience within the insurance industry.
- Minimum 5 years operating at CFO level.
- Strong experience within the insurance regulatory environment, including PA and FSCA engagement.
- Proven expertise in SAM, solvency management, capital adequacy, and regulatory reporting.
- Deep understanding of IFRS 17 and insurance finance principles.
- Demonstrated experience presenting to Boards, Audit Committees, and governance structures.
- Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and stakeholder engagement capability.
- The ability to interpret insurance regulations without needing emotional support afterwards is highly advantageous.
Competency Requirements:
- Strategic and commercial acumen
- Leadership and influence
- Governance and risk orientation
- Analytical thinking and problem solving
- Stakeholder engagement and communication
- Drive for results
- Integrity and professional judgement
- Change leadership and innovation
