Business Analyst

Overview of Role

A business analyst (BA) is a person who processes, interprets and documents business processes, products, services and software through analysis of data. The role of a business analyst is to ensure business efficiency increases through their knowledge of both IT and business function. The business analyst role is applicable to four key areas/levels of business functions – operational, project, enterprise and competitive focuses. Each of these areas of business analysis have a significant impact on business performance, and assist in enhancing profitability and efficiency in all stages of the business process, and across all business functions. The Business Analyst is an important part of any technical project team. They will act as the key interface between the end-users and the ICT department. They are primarily responsible for gathering information through discovery and analysis, documenting business processes, confirming the final documents with users and managing aspects of the delivery of technical solutions. Minimum of 5 - 8 years in the BA role.

Responsibilities:

• Responsibilities Skills and Competencies Requirements elicitation - analysing and gathering the needs of both computer-based systems as well as the business. Successful requirements elicitation can help to improve and eliminate quality and defective requirements respectively at an early point in the product lifecycle and can there for minimise wastage and maximise business success simultaneously.
• Provide Testing plans and UAT processes (ensure Peer testing as well as UAT are included in this).
• Business problem analysis - to analyse the issues a business is facing in order to determine how they impact business performance, and how the business can overcome these problems with maximum efficiency.
• Business modelling - forecasting, modelling and analysing current and future business performance, functions and processes.
• Information Systems (IS) strategy evaluation - continually monitor and control the strategic plans of a business, so that it is able to best meet its needs and goals. Part of this involves comparison with competitors and industry trends.
• Document and manage backlog
• Document functional and non-functional business requirements
• Conduct Discovery and Analysis on the project
• Evaluating business processes, anticipating requirements, uncovering areas for improvement, and developing and implementing solutions.
• Leading ongoing reviews of business processes and developing optimization strategies.w
• Staying up-to-date on the latest process and IT advancements to automate and modernize systems

Skills and Competencies:

• Mediation - play an essential role in communication and understanding between business and technology stakeholders.
• Data modelling skills for inclusion in the BRS and related documents
• Intermediate data analysis skills
• Intermediate documentation and communication skills
• Intermediate Project Management skills
• Competency in JIRA, MS Teams, MS Planner, Trello applications for project planning.
• Strong personality that can facilitate uncomfortable discussions
• Competency in MS Visio, DrawIO, Miro Board or any other process mapping, ERD, mind-mapping tooling applications.

Preferred Certifications and Education:

• Degree in computing related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certifications in Business Analysis
