CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To effectively manage, plan and render the Circulation, Information and Training Services, to oversee care and maintenance of the building for smooth operation of the 2^nd Avenue Branch Library to meet learning, teaching and research goals of the Nelson Mandela University.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Assisting and supporting the Deputy Directors in planning the Circulation and Information and Training sub-directorates,
• Managing and administering the operations of the service sections,
• Managing and developing human resources in the Circulation and Information and Training sections
• Delivering bibliographic, information and training services to users and meets their information requirements
• Supervising the circulation requirements of all library users
• Supervising the maintenance of library facility and equipment
• Advising on and participating in LIS collection development
• Managing campus operations

• Possess an in-depth knowledge of institutional LIS and departmental policies and procedures
• Excellent teaching and presentation skills to comfortably present information in a clear and engaging manner

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for appointment into this post, candidates must possess:

• Required minimum education: M+4 appropriate qualification in Library and Information Sciences
• Three to five (3-5) years’ experience in the field of LIS, of which two (2) should be in leadership role preferably in an academic library.
