Bookkeeper & General Administrator

SUMMARY:
Our client, a well-established agricultural business based in George, is seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Bookkeeper & General Administrator to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day bookkeeping function while providing comprehensive administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the business. Experience working with Xero Accounting Software is essential. Similar roles in the agricultural sector often combine bookkeeping, payroll, inventory administration, and general office management.

Description:
Bookkeeping

• Maintain accurate financial records using Xero.
• Process supplier invoices, customer invoices, receipts, and payments.
• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations.
• Manage creditors and debtors.
• Prepare VAT information and assist with statutory submissions.
• Capture journals and maintain the general ledger.
• Assist with month-end procedures and financial reporting.
• Liaise with external accountants and auditors.
• Maintain accurate financial filing systems.

• General office administration and filing.
• Answer and direct telephone calls and emails.
• Manage office supplies and procurement.
• Prepare reports and spreadsheets.
• Assist with payroll administration and employee records.
• Maintain inventory and stock records.
• Support management with ad hoc administrative duties.
• Coordinate documentation relating to farming operations where required.

• Grade 12 (Matric).
• Certificate or Diploma in Bookkeeping, Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum 3–5 years' bookkeeping experience.
• Proven experience using Xero Accounting Software (essential).
• Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles up to trial balance.
• Experience with VAT, creditors, debtors and reconciliations.
• Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
• Previous experience in the agricultural sector will be advantageous.
• Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.
