SUMMARY:
Our client in Midrand is currently looking for a Bock maker in the engineering field

POSITION INFO:

The key to this position is to ensure that Raw Materials are converted to Finished Product effectively, to standards, and safely. Wet concrete can only be put into shape once. To achieve this, the mix must be consistent and match the mould structure. The machine settings must then most appropriately combine the mix with the mould into the finished product.

The machine must be the bottleneck to the capacity of the plant and Throughput must be conceptually understood and practiced.
The Critical Success Factors (CSF’s) for this position are therefore:
 
1.   Continuously monitor the batching site for accuracy and performance.
2.   Plant and equipment availability
3.   Understand the block machine and its settings
4.   Understand what packing material is used for what product.
5.   Quality Control and Quality Assurance
6.   Health and safety
7.   Record keeping

Job Description
 

  • Continuously monitor the batching site for accuracy and performance.

 
    1. Needs to be fully aware of the various mix designs for each type of product, needs to understand the difference between these designs.
    2. Consistent batching is essential for a consistent mix to the block machine.
    3. Ensure that regular, at least hourly, checks are done to determine the accuracy of the mix compared to the mix design.
    4. Ensure that the water dosing systems remain in operation and is on auto setting.
    5. Understand this water dosing system and the settings on the system.
    6. Mixtures that have been made and not used within 20 minutes must be discarded.

 
  • Plant and equipment availability and performance

 
    1. Ensure that you know the plant and its automotive processes in detail.
    2. Daily cleaning of the plants to be done to a professional standard.
    3. Needs to understand the various “eyes and sensors” of the plant, their correct positions and their application.
    4. Understand plant stoppages; report the stoppages as accurately as possible.
    5. Do a daily inspection on all equipment and report any deviation.
    6. Ensure plant productivity is equal or better than 85% efficiency.
    7. Understand the required cycle-time for each product, report deviations to the Production manager and assist him to get the cycle time back to the correct level.

 
  • Understand the block making process

 
    1. Understand mix designs
    2. Understand water to cement ratios and the effects of over or under dosing.
    3. Understand the complexity of the full system, balancing the complete process.
    4. Understanding the flow of raw material, cement and concrete throughout the manufacturing process.
    5. Understanding the manufacturing process and the critical requirements to ensure a good quality final product.
    6. Need to be fully aware of all the parameters of the automotive systems and the effect of each parameter on the final product and the productivity of the complete system.

 
 
  • Understand the Packing material used for each product.

 
    1. Ensure that the packaging of all products is done in accordance to the company specifications.
    2. Make sure that the batch number/s is/are placed on every pack that is send to the yard as 1st grade.
    3. Makes sure that kerbing packs are also labeled correctly according to the batch.

            
  • Quality Control and Quality Assurance

 
    1. Be fully aware, having read, and understood the quality system currently in use.
    2. Understand the various check points and what needs to be checked at these points.
    3. Ensure that all documentation required by the quality system is completed and done honestly, correctly and with care.

 
 
  • Health and safety

 
    1. Ensure that you comply with all requirements of the OHS Act.
    2. Do a daily safety inspection of all areas under your control.
    3. Actively be aware of, and attend to, safety issues.
    4. Strive to make your working area a healthy and safe environment.
    5. Report all accidents, incidents and near misses to the Production Manager and Safety committee.

 
 
  • Administration and record keeping

 
    1. Ensure that all records are accurately and honestly updated on a daily basis and submitted to the Shift Manager.

 
 
Skills

  •  Technical or Trade
  •  At least Grade 12 with Maths and Science
  •  Microsoft Office Competent! (Word; Excel; PowerPoint)
  • Character

  •  PDI preferable
  • Interested in automotive systems
  • Able to stick to CSF’s while storms rage
  • Needs things organized and up to date
  • Sees organisational needs as personal goal
  •  Confident

 
Past Experience

  • Worked with fully automated plants and equipment
  • Solid record of being accurate, up to date, pleasant, applies mind
  • Have enough practical experience to know the difference between 0.1 and 0.01
