Biostatistician (12 Months Fixed Term Contract) Wits VIDA

Main purpose of the job:

• To provide statistical expertise and support to different studies and/or programs

Location:

• Wits VIDA – Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital - Soweto

Key performance areas:

Statistical Analysis

• Develop data protocols for different clinical trials
• Produce and/or influence Sample Size calculations for studies (exercise completed to determine the number of enrolled participants in studies or programs regarding the cost implication and study endpoints/objectives)
• Prepare Statistical Analysis plans when the protocol is ready to be implemented for the study team and donors as and when required
• Formulate Statistical Analysis plan which is used to analyze the study objectives per project, in line with P.I. requirement and protocol timelines;
• Assisting Principal investigators and study teams with report writing as and when required

Programming

• In preparation for statistical analysis of project data complete the necessary Data Queries and Data Cleaning exercises are conducted, per project, within the project specified timeline or as required
• Generate table Shells in statistical analysis plans thereby assisting study teams with their data analysis needs

Customer Service

• Assist all researchers will statistical input i.e. Abstracts and Manuscripts as and when required
• Offer support and training to researchers within the unit pertaining to statistics

Required minimum education and training:

• Master’s degree in Statistics/Biostatistics

Required minimum work experience:

• 3 – 5 years working experience within statistics in a Clinical Research and Programming organization

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

• PhD in Statistics/Biostatistics; Statistical Programming
• Data Cleaning and Manipulation
• Published Academic Articles
• Team Player, Understanding Social Networking
• Approachable, Energetic; Tolerant; High Level of time management ability
