SUMMARY:
An Assistant Researcher: Intellectual Property & Health Access (7 Months Fixed Term Contract) vacancy is available at one of our clients in the Health industry in South Africa (Working Remotely from Home).

POSITION INFO:

Main purpose of the job:

  • To support the research agenda, focusing on health equity in access to health care and specifically medicines (broadly) through research, analysis and training on issues related to Intellectual Property and Competition Law.

Location:

  • South Africa (Working Remotely from Home)

 Key performance areas:

  • Produce legal analysis and memoranda
  • Articulate succinct problem statements, collect relevant facts and current jurisprudence and laws, and synthesise
  • Provide research into relevant subject areas
  • Draft internal correspondence on behalf of HJI and provide input into legal proceedings where needed
  • Assist with ad hoc task in line with job function as and required
  • Assist with preparation of reports and research related administration.  

Required minimum education and training:

 A Master’s degree in Law or Public Policy  

Required minimum work experience: 

  • 1-2 years’ experience in conducting legal research for advocacy purposes
  • Experience working with human rights, legal and health research methodologies and organisations; and
  • Demonstrated knowledge across and understand key issues in the following areas: Health Rights; Human Rights and Public Sector Governance; Legislative Processes; Intellectual Property, Medicine Access and Medicine Pricing Policy Processes  

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities: 

  • Experience in medicine access and health rights advocacy in the fields of Covid-19 HIV/AIDS / TB and/or other chronic conditions;
  • Experience in the non-profit sector is an advantage;
  • Demonstrated competence in researching and publishing research summaries, reports and/or articles in relevant fields;
