To facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and skills of applied pathology, inclusive of Anatomical and Histological Pathology as part of the Integrated Pathology module offered by the MBChB program in the School of Medicine.
1. To facilitate teaching and learning within a team approach for under- and postgraduate students in pathology, with a focus on Anatomical and Histological Pathology
2. To facilitate the development and organization of teaching material in Anatomical and Histological Pathology
3. To implement innovative teaching methodologies which include online platforms
4. To assist with setting and marking of assessments
5. To develop and maintain an Anatomical Pathology Museum and library
6. To conduct research and the develop research and grant proposals
CORE COMPETENCIES
1. In-depth knowledge of the theory, application and integration of Anatomical and Histological Pathology in a university setting
2. Experience in up to date, technology enhanced and student-centred teaching and blended learning methods
3. Ability to ensure that assessments are quality-controlled and standardized, and that learning materials and equipment are in place
4. Experience in the development of curricula and learning material in Integrated Pathology with particular emphasis on Anatomical and Histological Pathology
5. Track record of academic supervision of under- and post-graduate students
6. Track record of publications and research
7. Competence in the Microsoft Office suite, and willingness to learn internal software programs.
Education
MBChB and FCPath or PhD in the higher biological sciences applicable to working in an Anatomical and/ or Histological Pathology environment
Registration
Full registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Scientist or Medical Practitioner
Experience and skills
3-5 years’ work experience in Anatomical and/ or Histological Pathology
2-5 years teaching experience in Anatomical and/ or Histological Pathology at university level
Proven track record of research output and publications
