POSITION INFO:

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The core purpose of this post is to facilitate and administer research, teaching, learning, and engagement in all aspects of Marine Engineering Electrical and Automation, and to be involved in the core functions of the University. The post requires a person that can teach and research within the Marine Engineering Automation and Electrical program.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

•           Facilitate effective teaching and learning in the field of Marine Engineering Electrical and Automation;

•           Assume responsibility for course materials, lectures, tutorials and assessment of modules

•           Successful research supervision of under-graduate and post-graduate students;

•           Be able to perform independent research in the field of Marine Engineering and hold a PhD, or completing a PhD related to this field;

•           Engage and network with the Marine Engineering industry in terms of teaching and research.

•           Perform administrative duties relating to the above performance areas.

  • Development of course material for Marine Engineering Electrical and Automation in-line with STCW/SAMSA and ECSA requirements for engineering technologist
 

 

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to facilitate teaching and learning and conduct research or potential to grow in teaching and research in Marine Engineering Automation and Electrical
  • Ability to supervise under-graduate or post-graduate students in the field of Marine Engineering, as described above;
  • Sound communication, administrative and interpersonal skills;

 

  • Ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders

REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful candidate must have or be registered for a PhD in Engineering Subject areas: Electrical, Automation and Autonomous Marine.
  • 5 years relevant working experience.
  • Academic project management experience and understand marine robotics
  • Specialization: Shipboard Electrical Power Systems for a variety of marine vessels, High Voltage protection systems and safety, Marine system modelling, control system design and integration, industrial automation, Process control and safety, Design and implementation aspects of autonomous systems for a variety of marine and land based applications
  • Minimum qualification requirement: Masters’ (Senior Lecturer) Doctoral (Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor) degree in Mechatronics Engineering, but must be registered and completing a PhD in Automation or have completed a PhD in Automation.
  • Professional registration: ECSA, SAIEE
  • Continuous professional certification: Accredited certification into Industrial Automation Safety Systems’ as well as relevant field experience,
  • Have developed and taught Marine Engineering Electrical and Automation modules in-line with STCW/SAMSA and ECSA requirements for an Engineering Technologist.
