CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The MBChB Program Coordinator will be responsible for the management of the pre-clinical and clinical training programs; the planning and coordinating of academic, operational and financial activities; the development, implementation and ongoing compliance with the Medical Program’s goals and objectives and monitor and bring to attention any national requirements in terms of clinical training at the Medical School and at the Public Health Facilities. The coordinator will participate in reviewing and aligning the MBChB degree curriculum.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Administration and management of the undergraduate medical training programs and activities
• Participate in and oversee the design and administration of the MBChB curriculum and compile necessary quality improvement.
• Planning and coordinating academic, operational and financial activities of the MBChB Program
• Assist in the development, implementation and ongoing compliance with the MBChB program’s goals and objectives
• Management, monitoring and reporting on MBChB programs and related projects in terms of the clinical training at the university and at health facilities
• Provide management assistance to the Program Director and members of the Medical Program team
• Provide leadership and direction to the Medical Program team and encourage an optimal workplace and learning environment for the MBChB staff and students
• Instill a culture of continuous learning amongst MBChB staff and students and ensure resident education and compliance with national, hospital, faculty and departmental policies
• Preparation and dissemination of information pertaining to the Medical Program and its activities to the Faculty, the HPCSA and the Eastern Cape Department of Health facilities where training will take place

• Sound knowledge of curriculum coordination and the compilation of data for continuous quality improvement and accreditation
• Sound knowledge of learning and teaching methodologies, and assessment practices
• Sound analytical, communication and organisational skills
• Sound knowledge of MBChB accreditation processes
• Sound management skills, including financial management
• Sound knowledge on research processes at graduate level

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education

MBChB completed in South Africa

Relevant Masters’ degree (Senior Lecturer)

Relevant PhD will be an advantage (Associate Professor)

Registered with the HPCSA as an Independent Practitioner

A postgraduate qualification in Health Professions Education

Experience and skills

A minimum of 3-7 years’ extensive relevant work experience in teaching

A minimum of 5-10 year’s clinical work experience as a Medical Officer or a Medical Specialist in a South African Public Health facility

Proven experience in MBChB curriculum development and implementation

Management and budgeting experience

Proven track record of research output and publications
