POSITION INFO:

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

  • To facilitate the safe, effective and efficient delivery and assessment of Clinical Skills and Simulation in the MBChB Program
  • To provide stewardship of the effective and safe use and management of training areas and equipment for the delivery of clinical skills teaching, simulation, and assessment
  • To enhance the development of fit for purpose primary healthcare-oriented graduates through the teaching of clinical skills and reasoning and the encouragement of inner growth and personal development

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • To lead the curriculum development of Clinical Skills and Simulation in the MBChB Program
  • To teach, assess and provide timeous feedback to Medical and Health Science students
  • To further develop and provide oversight to the running of the Clinical Skills laboratory
  • To develop and utilize a variety of creative teaching methodologies including blended and online approaches for clinical skills and simulation learning and teaching.
  • To work together with the Faculty of Health Sciences to establish and build relationships on the clinical healthcare platform
  • To support Students’ clinical skills as needed at Clinical training sites
  • To support and contribute to Interprofessional learning opportunities
  • To take an active role in research, including the supervision of undergraduate and post graduate Health Science students.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Possession of sound clinical knowledge and skills as a Medical Professional
  • Experience in the development of curricula in Health Professions Education
  • Experience in teaching clinical skills, simulation and reasoning to Health Science Students
  • Ability to keep abreast of the latest, innovative technological changes and trends in clinical medicine and Health Professions Education
  • Ability to work flexibly in cross-functional teams in the teaching and development of students in the Medical School and Faculty of Health Sciences in the clinical skills laboratory and on the clinical platform
  • Ability to consult and provide advice, facilitate discussion and resolve any areas of conflict
  • Recognise and deal with cultural diversity, and establish trust, credibility and respect with the Medical Program team and medical students

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

Education

MBChB completed in South Africa.

Relevant Masters’ degree (Senior Lecturer).

Relevant PhD will be an advantage (Associate Professor).

Registered with the HPCSA as an Independent Practitioner.

A postgraduate qualification in Health Professions Education.

Experience and skills

A minimum of 3-7 years’ extensive relevant work experience in teaching.

A minimum of 5-10 year’s clinical work experience as a Medical Officer or a Medical Specialist in a South

African Public Health Facility.

Proven experience in MBChB curriculum development and implementation.

Management and budgeting experience.

Proven track record of research output and publications.
