POSITION INFO:

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

 

Facilitate learning and teaching in the undergraduate and postgraduate field of visual art, as well as visual arts theory in art, design and culture; undertake research; supervise postgraduates. Further, facilitate learning and teaching in curatorial and professional practice, and entrepreneurship in visual arts. Oversee and conduct institutional gallery operations and marketing of exhibitions and events in the facility.

  • Facilitate the learning processes in the Department
  • Conduct research and contribute to creative outputs
  • Perform assessments, curriculum development and administration
  • Engage in postgraduate research supervision in visual arts
  • Oversee and conduct institutional gallery operations
  • Develop and maintain national engagement practices

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Sound knowledge of visual studies as it pertains to art, design, fashion and culture; and

critical discourses in visual art practices from a local and international perspective, with research specialisation in one or more of the following – transdisciplinarity, fine art, photography, design, fashion, curatorship.

  • Significant experience of techniques, processes, technologies and production as it pertains to contemporary visual arts professional practice.
  • Expert knowledge, experience and proficiency in curatorial practice.
  • Ability to develop and innovate course content so as to keep programmes relevant and current
  • Experience of teaching and learning methodologies relevant to visual arts practices
  • Proven competencies in the functions pertinent to the managing, stocking and maintenance of art gallery and studio environments and the staging of events.
  • Computer literacies commensurate with the requirements of all forms of lecture delivery, academic administration and gallery, art archive and studio management.
  • Demonstrate evidence of ongoing creative practice and engagement.
  • Establish engagement practice and networks through liaison with professionals, peers and the creative arts industry.
  • Experience of initiating and contributing to community engagement and community engagement programmes in visual arts

REQUIREMENTS

In order to be considered for appointment to this post, candidates should have a minimum Master’s qualification at NQF9. Evidence of research supervision at Honours and Master’s level is requisite.
