CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The purpose of the post is to facilitate and administer the learning process for students in modules as presented by the Nelson Mandela University Nursing Science Department at undergraduate level, to participate in research, to contribute to the academic and community engagement as well as being involved in the core functions of the University.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

1. Possess a sound knowledge of the theory and application in relevant disciplines in nursing, in particular, Midwifery.
2. Experience in facilitation of teaching and learning activities and practices in undergraduate academic and clinical programs.
3. Supervision of research students.
4. Create knowledge through research and publications.

CORE COMPETENCIES

1. Application of diverse teaching and learning methodologies for Nursing students.
2. Knowledge and ability to teach practical and theoretical components of Midwifery.
3. Experience in facilitation of teaching and learning at under and postgraduate levels.
4. Knowledge of research theory and applications in Nursing.
5. Ability to contribute to the creation of knowledge by virtue of research and/or co-supervision of research candidates at Honours levels, involvement in relevant engagement/ consulting activities or other scholarly outputs.
6. Ability to contribute to the development and implementation of short learning programs or other Continuous Development Programs.
7. Ability to assist in curriculum development.

REQUIREMENTS

Education

M+4 Honours degree in Nursing (Midwifery)

Registration

Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse

Registered with SANC as a Nurse Educator/ Evidence of application to SANC as a Nurse Educator

Registration with SANC as an Assessor/Evidence of application to SANC as an Assessor

Registration with SANC as a Moderator/Evidence of application to SANC as a Moderator

Experience and skills

Minimum of one year’s teaching experience in Midwifery

Minimum 2 years’ experience in the clinical field of midwifery

Research

Evidence of research involvement is required

Knowledge and experience of healthcare systems
