Assistant IT Operations Manager

POSITION INFO:

Job Purpose:                     

The Assistant IT Operations Manager reports to the General Manager Systems and will assist to manage daily operations in the department. This role ensures that IT Operations are executed efficiently and effectively. Service Delivery needs to be managed for both internal and external customers. Systems (hardware and/or software) are designed and installed in a manner that meets the needs of the company and ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.

Role Responsibilities:  

• Assist in the delivery and management of systems to ensure the availability of services being provided to internal and external customers.
• Assist with systems monitoring management to ensure available capacity for ongoing IT Operations as well as project demand.
• Assist with Incident and Problem management to ensure the availability of IT Operations by managing the resolution of ongoing problems.
• Ensure the necessary clearances are in place (e.g. security, access controls);
• Provide regular status reports to the project manager and/or department head;
• Liase with internal staff, customers and subcontractors on technical issues;
• Deliver technical proposals and generate cost estimates for future activities;
• Evaluate overall system project risks and facilitate risk mitigation planning and execution with program and functional leadership.

Preferred Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in an IT field;
• ITIL Certification;
• Demonstrated experience in delivering IT Operations;
• 5-10 years working experience in an IT Operations department;
• Ideally 3-5 years Previous management/supervisory experience;
• Expert in Systems Engineering practices (SOLARIS, or Linux or Windows);
• Knowledge off SOLARIS 10/11 in a SPARC / INTEL environment;
• Knowledge off Windows Server;
• Knowledge off VMWare;
• SUN SPARC, INTEL platforms experience;
• Knowledge of High Availability concepts, Disaster Recovery and Replication;
