Assistant Farm and Maintenance Manager

SUMMARY:
An established agricultural producer is seeking the above to supervise and plan preventive maintenance and repairs on all agricultural equipment during off-season for Western Farms (500ha), and to assist the Foreman, Unit Leaders and Farm Manager in solving in-field breakdowns during harvesting, to ensure minimum standing time.

POSITION INFO:

Minimum requirements for the role:

• Must have Grade 12 and a Mechanical Trade Certificate or 5 years’ experience in the maintenance of farm operations equipment
• Previous experience in farm machinery maintenance is required
• Must have knowledge & skills on:

           -  Mechanical constructions / boiler making

           -  Hydraulic systems

           -  Auto electrics

• Training certificates on above topics are preferred
• Must have experience in annual equipment maintenance planning, managing parts stock and staff management
• Must have a valid driver’s license

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Executing complex repairs independently.
• Supervising maintenance and farm staff.
• Managing the Workshop Assistant by supplying a weekly work plan and following up on a daily basis.
• Managing up to 15 staff in the workshop during periods between planting and harvesting time (up to 50% of the time).
• Cleaning machinery and assist with off-season equipment maintenance.
• Creating a weekly plan and executing daily, ensuring all staff has daily work instruction while in the workshop.
• Preparing “Off Season” preventive maintenance following checklist procedures.
• Dealing with local suppliers and engineering shops for repairs and parts.
• Managing the inventory and storage of parts.
• Ordering parts (overseas) timely for ‘off season’ maintenance, which requires long-term planning to avoid equipment standing time and/or excessive cost due to international air-freight cost.
• Instructing and managing farm staff during the absence of the Farm Manager on field duties.

Salary package, including benefits, are highly negotiable depending on experience gained
