SUMMARY:

A leader in the supply of agricultural products and services is seeking an experienced Nutrition Agronomist / Plant Physiologist to provide agronomic advice, with specialised focus on nutritional support, to a team of Crop Advisors in the field.

POSITION INFO:

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Must have a BSc degree in Agricultural, Plant Physiology, Soil Science or similar
  • At least 7 years’ experience in agronomy, preferably within KwaZulu Natal will be required
  • Agronomic knowledge and experience in crop protection, fertilizer or seed markets will be a major advantage
  • Experience in trial work and evaluation is important
  • Must be ambitious and passionate about agriculture, with strong focus on customer satisfaction, service delivery and problem solving
  • Must be IT literate, with an aptitude for systems
  • Good communication skills, specifically in English and Afrikaans, with the ability to interface with internal and external stakeholders of all levels, will be required
  • Must have a valid drivers license and be willing to travel in KwaZulu Natal
 
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Assisting in developing the company’s nutritional strategy and serving the operational side of the business with sound agronomic input.
  • Determining agronomic strategies that are aligned with the Crop Advisor, and guiding decisions that enhance yield.
  • Ensuring economical optimization by placing accurate information in the end users’ hands and by providing insight into agronomic best practice.
  • Enhancing agronomic decision making and facilitating sales that are to the farmer’s benefit.
  • Developing end user relationship and enhancing supplier relationships.
  • Developing relationships with and providing support to close channel partners.
  • Developing an understanding of how Crop Advisors work in certain areas, including crops produced, agronomic principles, improving crop knowledge, identifying new strategies and products that improve return on investment to the end user.
  • Sharing and presenting information to clients and crop advisors.
  • Compiling and distributing reports about crop performance and agronomic practices to clients and crop advisors as required.
  • Providing in field assessments of on-farm issues linked to the performance of healthy crops by using a complete understanding of soil analysis, leaf samples, and in-field observations.
  • Ensuring absolute accuracy in recommendations.
  • Training and guiding team members on newly implemented strategies as well as the basics of agronomy.
  • Leading the team through new decisions and nutritional strategies.
  • Working with the technical team to disseminate their technical data and findings.
  • Meeting with suppliers and ensuring the correct information is provided to them, and that they understand where the company is positioned with their products and services.
Salary package, including benefits, are highly negotiable depending on experience gained
