Agriculture Field Officer/Supervisor

SUMMARY:
This role is responsible for the daily technical support and monitoring of all grains field activities performed by our farmers/ growers.

POSITION INFO:

The Agriculture Field Officer must ensure that farmers/growers are coordinated with the planning set out by the Agri department to drive annual production targets of yellow field pea and soya in Southern Africa are met.  In collaboration with the Agri Manager, this role provides technical guidance to contracted farmers/ growers to ensure standard operating procedures and records are achieved to achieve continuous improvements in quality, cost yields. The position requires extensive fieldwork and traveling.

TECHNICAL SUPERVISION & SUPPORT

• Technical planning, supervision, and monitoring of field activities
• Support the Agri Manager in the technical evaluation of agricultural data
• Ensure timely implementation of field activities as per the defined schedule
• Ensure standard operating procedures are being implemented
• Coordinate with growers on best practices implementation
• Assist farmers with the implementation and evolution of the Agri Digitisation strategy
• Communicate with the farmers/growers on the planning or seeds ordering, delivery, planting, harvest, and storage
• Supporting growers in addressing pests and disease issues at different locations across SA
• Collection of analyses samples required by the agri- competence center
• Planning and implementation of all samples, tests, and record-keeping for the supply chain record-keeping processes
• Data collection for reports to the Agri Competence center
• Knowledge of budgeting, cost management.
• Planning, monitoring, recording trials and innovations opportunities

Qualifications and experience: 

• Minimum B.Sc. degree in agriculture or agronomy
• Minimum 2-5 years’ experience working in agriculture sector (Commercial grain farming experience desirable)
• Grains Knowledge is critical
• Ability to work with modern farming technology and innovations towards regenerative farming targets.
• Project management experience is desirable
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans
