Accounting Clerk

POSITION INFO:
My client is looking for an Accounting Clerk to support their finance department with end-to-end bookkeeping, general accounting tasks, and compliance-related functions across both local and international operations.

This role is based in Sandton, Johannesburg North.

Key Responsibilities

Bookkeeping & Finance Support

• Manage day-to-day accounting tasks including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and bank reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly schedules for accruals, recharges, and cross charges to support the management accounts process.
• Oversee invoice processing and creditor payments while maintaining a healthy creditors ageing profile for both local and foreign suppliers.
• Ensure supplier invoices are reviewed and correctly allocated to relevant cost centres and GL accounts.
• Manage employee travel advances, travel-related expense claims, and directors’ expense reimbursements.
• Generate client invoices in line with engagement terms and maintain an accurate debtors age analysis.
• Maintain and reconcile fixed asset registers, depreciation schedules, and records of acquisitions/disposals.
• Contribute to the preparation of monthly management accounts, annual budgets, and year-end audits.
• Assist with weekly cash flow forecasts and post monthly payroll journals with reconciliations.
• Support EMP501 reconciliation and submissions, as well as ad hoc finance-related tasks.

Administrative Duties

• Support HR with payroll processing and ensure alignment between payroll records and payments.
• Work closely with the legal team to help maintain records, documentation, and filing systems.
• Maintain and update client engagement letters and related administrative documentation.

Tax & Compliance

• Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT201, EMP201, and EMP501 returns.
• Maintain statutory compliance registers, including CIPC updates and shareholder records.

Requirements

• National Diploma/ Degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 3 years experience in a similar role.
• Solid understanding of bookkeeping principles and accounting processes.
• Experience in working with both local and international transactions is beneficial.
• Strong Excel skills and working knowledge of accounting systems.
• Organised, proactive, and able to work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
