SUMMARY:
Our client, a well-established firm in the financial planning sector, is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant or Bookkeeper with a strong background in import and export processes. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with customs documentation and procedures, and a solid understanding of accounting principles. This role is crucial in ensuring accurate financial records while maintaining compliance with trade regulations.
POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate financial records, including ledgers, journals, and reconciliations
- Manage and process import and export documentation, including customs forms and declarations
- Ensure compliance with local and international customs laws and procedures
- Liaise with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and relevant government authorities
- Track and record international transactions and associated duties or tariffs
- Assist with month-end and year-end financial reporting
- Support audit preparation and respond to financial inquiries
- Monitor exchange rates and their impact on transactions
- Maintain organized records of all import/export documentation for audit purposes
Requirements:
- Matric certificate (Grade 12) – mandatory
- Qualification in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or a related field (Diploma or Degree preferred)
- Proven experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in import/export finance or logistics
- Proficiency in customs procedures and documentation
- Strong knowledge of accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, or similar)
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and a proactive attitude
