Dynamic and growing blue-chip concern based in the North, has an opportunity for a candidate that wants to grow, develop and become part of the business. Tertiary finance qualification essential. Previous commercial experience essential.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

OVERVIEW
 
This role reports into the Finance Manager and is responsible for assisting with accounting, month end and year end reconciliations and preparation of audit files for local SA entities.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  1. Supervise and initiating the processing of purchase invoices, receipts, sales invoices.
  2. Perform balance sheet reconciliations on monthly basis.
  3. Updating investment property schedules and fixed asset registers.
  4. General journals – e.g. MTM adjustments, straight line adjustments depreciation, accruals, interest, salaries journals, etc.
  5. Reconcile debtors and creditors statements monthly.
  6. Correct accounting treatment on disposal of assets (property, plant & equipment) and investments and the calculation of the taxation on capital gains/losses.
  7. Analyse the resulting trial balance for mistakes / deviations and be able to discuss the results with the Finance Manager.
  8. Prepare a draft set of monthly management accounts and related notes
  9. Assist in formulating accounting policies.
  10. Identifying provisions and contingent liabilities
  11. Calculation of VAT and completion of the monthly returns.
  12. Reconciliations of input/output VAT to annual financial statements and monthly trial balances
  13. Recording and identifying short comings in internal controls.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
  1. Matric with Accounting at Higher Grade
  2. BCom degree or equivalent degree with Accounting III and taxation
  3. Completed SAIPA articles
  4. 6 years plus experience in a similar role
 SOFTWARE PACKAGE EXPERIENCE
  1. Pastel/Sage
  2. Microsoft office – Excel and Word, Windows
  3. CaseWare (not compulsory)
  4. Payroll (not compulsory)
