Accountant

SUMMARY:
An established cross-border freight and logistics business in the East Rand is looking for a commercially minded Accountant to own and manage its cashbook and cash flow operations. This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys working close to the business in a fast-moving environment. The role involves daily cash flow forecasting, monthly balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting financial discipline across multiple entities. Advanced Excel skills and Sage Evolution experience will be a strong advantage.

POSITION INFO:

Job Description:
As the Accountant, your duties could include the following:
Accurately capture and reconcile all cashbooks within agreed timelines
Prepare, maintain, and update cash flow forecasts, ensuring consistency with ledger activity
Resolve payment-related queries and prepare payments for approval and bank release
Submit and manage new beneficiary details with Treasury for verification and system setup
Maintain effective petty cash controls, including cash certificates and monitoring spend in line with policy
Complete month-end checklists and ensure adherence to all reporting deadlines
Assist with the month-end close process, including trial balance reviews and accurate cost allocations prior to reporting
Perform accounts payable reconciliations and ensure payment timing is correctly reflected in cash flow forecasts
Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly and investigate variances
Assist with the preparation and capture of approved budgets at company and departmental level within Sage Evolution
Support year-end close processes and related financial preparation activities
 
Skills & Experience:
No less than 5 years of experience in a similar role managing cashbook and petty cash
Advanced Excel skills (Non-negotiable)
Excellent reconciliation skills
Strong time management skills
Experience working on Sage Evolution

Qualification:
Completed qualification in Finance or Accounting
