AUTOMATION TECHNICIAN – SOFTWARE

Location: Pretoria, Gauteng
Salary: R25 000 – R35 000
Hours: 08:00–17:00 (Mon–Fri) with occasional overtime

Our client is seeking a highly capable Automation Technician to program, install, test, and support computer-controlled machinery and systems. You’ll play a key role in ensuring efficient, reliable, and streamlined production within a high-performance manufacturing environment.

Required Experience

• Solid background in PLC and robotics programming (automotive industry experience is a plus)

• Additional experience beneficial in:

  • KUKA robotics

  • Beckhoff and Siemens PLC platforms

Technical Skills

• Competence in multiple programming languages

• Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and fault-finding ability

• Mechanical and electrical installation understanding

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics

Soft Skills

• Excellent organizational and project planning abilities

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

• Effective team collaboration

Qualifications

• Degree or National Diploma in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Automation
  OR

• Recognized trade certification (Electrical, Millwright, Mechatronics)

Computer Skills

• Proficient in MS Windows, Outlook, Excel, and Project

• AutoCAD exposure is advantageous

Main Responsibilities

• Install and commission automation and electrical systems

• Work closely with installation and engineering teams

• Maintain accurate project documentation and progress reports

• Program, test, and troubleshoot PLCs and robotic systems

• Conduct detailed fault-finding and debugging

• Support mechanical/electrical installation tasks

• Provide guidance to junior team members

• Integrate and configure automation equipment

• Travel when required (locally and internationally, up to 3 months)

• Possess a valid driver’s license

• Adapt to a high-speed, dynamic work environment

• Willingness to work overtime when needed
