Employer Description

A Game Lodge and Global Animal Welfare organization located in the Freestate. This role will be based on site at the lodge on a daily basis. (Not a remote working role.)

Job Description

Key duties will include: Marketing and raise awareness to a niche clientele through the use of online channels, travel agents, tour operators,  industry partners, Bloggers & Influences, past client base etc. along with radio and print media etc. Developing and Implementing a detailed marketing strategy for the next 3 years.  Growing Brand awareness across all platforms for the Welfare organization. Focusing on niche animal welfare target audience for day tourism, overnight guests, academy students and other interest groups. Focusing on destination marketing and encourage length of stay. Promoting existing packages across multiple platforms: Websites, Social Media, Print Media, Radio, Travel Partner sites and developing new packages if required.

Some of the terminologies that we would hope any Tourism development manager candidates to be familiar with are:

STO Rates = Sell to tour operator / standard tour operator rates

Rack rates =  The hotel/lodge rates from which all other rates take their lead. We would take these rates and then work out agent commissions based on these base rates.

FIT rates = Free Independent Travelers although confusing because it applies to a group of travellers, usually with a guide and depending on the number of travellers, the guide may stay free or have meals and accommodation included but this is determined by the establishment (I, for example, would offer free accommodation for the guide only on groups of 10 or more travellers). FIT packages are slightly more costly.

OTA =  Online travel agency (examples would be booking.com, Expedia, etc..)

MICE = Meetings, Incentives, conferences, events

This coupled with the fact the successful candidate would also engage with schools, universities, past guests, similar NPOs, volunteer & intern partners, etc.. If they don’t have a very basic understanding of the industry, it would be too steep a learning curve and take time that we, unfortunately, don’t have the luxury of right now.

This candidate would work very closely with the reservations person as well as the digital comms person in order to sell or tailor packages put out to the market and adjust our offerings according to demand or lack thereof.

They would also keep a close eye on competitor sets to see if we are priced correctly and the ever-changing industry trends.

Qualifications

Relevant Qualifications in Marketing and Hospitality/Tourism ideal.

Skills

5+ years experience in similar role would be ideal. Proven professional experience and education in Hospitality/Tourism and marketing. Strong Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Must have an innate love and passion for wildlife protection and the Hospitality/Tourism industry.

Temporary accommodation on site for first month to 6 week period to find suitable accommodation in town. Thereafter it is the applicant''s responsibility to find own accommodation in the area if not already resident in the area. The salary on offer will be commensurate with level of experience and capability to a max budget. Compulsory Provident Fund included in the CTC and voluntary medical aid.
