An upmarket Resort Hotel located on the Beach front in KZN.

Job Description

The duty manager must be responsible for overall operation of the hotel in the absence of the General manager and/ or food and beverage manager.  Apart from rendering the best services below are a few duties and responsibilities:

• Ensure that all guests requests are attended to and followed through
• Make sure all special occasions are celebrated including but not limited to birthdays and anniversaries during mealtimes as requested by the guest
• The dining room table settings and relevant room numbers are placed on the tables with the correct number of chairs and settings based on the number of people occupying the room
• Receive any deliveries that may occur during you being on shift, particularly beverage deliveries and are stored correctly in the cellar
• Make sure that all conference tea and coffee setups are ready at the required time based on the information on the relevant function sheet
• To check and make sure service levels for food and drink service/ ordering is maintained to the correct and expected standards
• To ensure all required labels for mealtimes are accurately displayed for guests
• To replenish any food item running short during a buffet meal at the hotel
• To ensure any special diets and food allergies/ requests/ dietaries are checked on daily and the correct waiter/ waitress is made aware of any special food that is required for that meal or time of the day
• Walk around the hotel and make sure any maintenance issues are written and reported using the maintenance book situated at the hotel reception
• Liaise with guests on any maintenance issues they may experience and in cases where maintenance cannot fix an urgent issue, to contact the relevant service provider to come through and assist
• To ensure all mealtimes are setup and ready for the mealtimes during the day and ensure the relevant staff are carrying out their duties as requested or as expected
• To issue from the cellar and relevant storerooms, stock for the bar including drinking ice
• Assist in the opening of guests’ safes if any guests have any problems in opening their safes and top check if flat batteries need to be replaced
• To input invoices for food and beverage into the relevant stock control system
• To place orders for drinks and other bar related items with the relevant suppliers
• To assist with any medical or emergency issues guests may ask assistance with
• To notify the returning general or food and beverage manager on any required or relevant handover for the period they were absent from the hotel
• To ensure that the hotel, public areas, dining room, bars, kid’s playroom, pool area and outside pay area, including Putt Putt, is clean and serviced during their shift
• The tea and coffee station is always prepared and ready for guests to use, including the serving of teatime eats during the afternoon shift
• To be responsible for the dropping off/ collecting of staff at 18h00 daily and 22h00 daily when on duty
• Make sure all water systems in the hotel are running and any deviation of water pressure or dry taps are reported to maintenance for attention
• Check that during times the generator is running and that any break down or stalling of the generator is reported to maintenance

Other duties

• Every other task given by management is executed
• To adhere to the relevant Resort code of conduct for employees, and to familiarize yourself with these guidelines for conduct, and to understand consequences if deviated from.

Qualifications

Relevant Hospitality Qualifications are an advantage but not essential if well experienced.

Skills

Punctual. Reliable. Great Communication and Interpersonal skills. Fluency in English and Zulu a strong advantage. MUST HAVE VALID DRIVER''S LICENSE.

Salary / Package

R8000-R10000 Per month dependent on experience
