JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our leading automotive client is looking for a well seasoned Production Shift Manager to join their dynamic team at their plant in Rosslyn, Pretoria.

SUPERVISE AND ORGANISE PERSONNEL: It is the responsibility of the Shift Manager to motivate, coach, evaluate and counsel employees. The Shift Manager must enforce policies and procedures and offer discipline when necessary. Must be able to organize people and place them in needed positions effectively, to ensure lines start up on time. The Shift Manager is responsible for filling out Daily Manning Sheet, which confirms the number of employees working on each shift and the particular job being performed to include training and cross training. Guarantee correct transmission of the information between shifts and facilitates start of next shift. Monitor and address safety & environmental concerns on the shop floor. Monitor quality issues toward our goal of zero defects. Control overtime to achieve a goal of 0 hours. Improve efficiency and perform daily scrap reviews. Personnel distribution and mobility, ensuring trained workers as per multiskilling matrix. Total Quality. External rejections analysis and restraint control. Collaboration with Engineering regarding planning, assembly and startup of new projects. Plant Indicators Monitoring: Gross Performance, Production Effectiveness and Deviations. Check results of cycle counters. Manage the Reporting of cycle count results. In case of deviation in the Cycle count results ( system stock vs cycle counted stock ) repeat cycle count to confirm / correct deviation. Execute continuous improvement actions defined based on cycle count results. Follow up with departments by been proactive in the raising concerns where possible failures can occur. Follow up with departments where production needs assistance to reduce time spent on breakdowns or downtime.
PRODUCTION: Hold production lines accountable to ensure compliance with published schedules, tact time/hourly rates and quality standards. Reduce controllable downtime. Verify completion and accuracy of all production reporting and paperwork. Ensuring per shift daily reporting is completed and as well as monthly production KPI.
QUALITY: Responsible to provide training to ensure all production employees understand proper operations, work instructions, quality procedures, and safety instructions, The Shift Manager is also responsible for all training control forms as training occurs such as Training Charts, Multi-Skilling Charts and the employee appraisals. He/she holds regular safety and production meetings with all members of his/her crew.

COMMUNICATION: Supervisors are responsible to communicate needs to staff members and employees. Shift Managers are expected to offer suggestions for improvements to process and quality. Responsible to fill out all required production reports correctly and completely.

HOUSEKEEPING: Shift Managers are responsible to enforce housekeeping rules and to get good examples to employees per Group 5s standards. In addition, are responsible to ensure all material is place in proper areas with correct tags, labels and paperwork.
SAFETY: Shift Managers are responsible to ensure all safety rules and regulations, to provide safety equipment to operators, to report any unsafe conditions to Production Manager, complete Safety Incident Investigation occurred. Ensure compliance with the company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Comply with the requirements of the Company Quality Manual, Environmental Manual Procedures and Process Cards.
PRODUCTION PLANNING: Responsible for planning production following the DCI created by Logistics Department using the customer schedules. Plan using available inventory and racking/containers. Determine planning by considering raw material availability, production lead time, tool availability and cleaning and customer due date. Make changes when necessary, when resources are insufficient or don’t come as planned or when equipment fails. Monitor finished goods inventory levels and keep it at the appropriate level. Set schedules for tool changes and determine tools required for preheating based on upcoming production requirements. Comply with the requirements of the companies Quality Manual, Environmental Manual, Procedure, Process cards and Instruction. Communicate schedules to the production department and establish priorities according to customer needs, capacity, material, racking and manpower constraints. Work with all departments to help resolve issues preventing schedules from met according to the plan. Analyze production schedule to ensure molds are ready for changing. Make preparation for mold cleaning.

REQUIREMENTS:

Matric + Technical further education
Computer literate
Training in SP & Production Management.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 5 years Managerial experience preferably in a related industry
Minimum 5 years in Automotive Industry
Experience in Human Resources and Industrial Relations
Experience in Maintenance planning
